Thinking Challenge #10 – “Ships Meet”
Here is this week’s thinking challenge. This puzzle is from the book BrainMatics Logic Puzzles by Ivan Moscovich. As noted in the book, “This beautiful problem was invented by Edouard Lucas, the famous French 19th-century mathematician.” Enjoy!
“Every day at noon, a ship leaves Le Havre for New York and another ship leaves New York for Le Havre, at exactly the same time. The trip last seven days and seven nights. How many New York-LeHavre ships will the Le Havre-New York ship that departs today meet during its voyage to New York?”

I will not be posting answers to the games and puzzles on my site. Email me if you think you have the answer. I really enjoy hearing from everyone who takes on these challenges!
Do you know of a great game or puzzle that you would be willing to share? Email me your suggestion and if I use it on my blog I will credit you for the submission. Thanks in advance for sending me your suggestions!

This puzzle is turning out to be one of the trickier ones. Some folks fell into the trap of guessing “7″ ships which seems obvious at first glance but is incorrect.
Kudos to those who have gotten the correct answer. Keep trying everyone.
Cheers,
